Unfortunately, my bong is much too little for me to fit ice cubes into it, but I read that you can just stick it in the freezer to cool down the glass, and use chilled water as well.
But I’m also nervous about that whole, glass exploding sh*t. If I attempt to smoke out of my chilled glass bong, will I get a face full of glass?

nah, they put glass in the freezer all the time.
you know when you go places and you get a beer and they give you that super cold mug.

Don’t put your bong in the freezer….its glass and could shatter or crack once you start warming it up by smoking. Just keep the water that you’ll use for the bong in the freezer for a bit to make it ice cold. If you’re looking to have smoother hits, put a couple of altoids in the water, its smooth and tastes minty.
It shouldn’t happen, but if you’re really worried, you could always try putting something else made of glass in the freezer first.
Although it may not crack or break right away, doing this with extreme difference in temperatures will make the glass weaker over time… And there is Yes, a possibility it can break. There are many things you can do to lessen the strength of the hit. You can put altoids or mints as suggested above. A few people I know even use kool-aid with lots of water for a different taste. Also there are flavored drops they sell at smoke shops you can put over your weed, but I don’t know anyone that uses these or recommends them much.. But it is worth a try!
If you can’t fit ice cubes, get a ziploc bag, and crush up the ice so it fits into your bong. Chilled water is just fine to use.
Also, did you realize you need to clean your bong regularly? There is a cleaner called 420 that works well. Also one of the best natural ways to clean your bong is using sea salt and hot water. You want to do this probably once a week or two, just to get the stale stuff and resin out. Put hot water in the bong, take out the stem and bowl, and swirl the salt around with the water to clean the inside of the glass. Always be sure to rinse VERY VERY well. You don’t want to smoke salts or chemicals.

it should be ok cos they make them out of pyrex, i wouldn’t think that it would heat fast enough to do any damage. i just keep a bottle of water in the fridge throughout summer
If you can put ice cubes in it the glass will get cold. If you put it in the freezer the glass will get cold
so if it doesn’t break while putting ice in it, why would it break while freezing it?
i like that better than the ice cubes…we have a big bong and i get scared the ice cubes are going to break the stem on the way down. we do it all the time anyway, and so far no glass explosion in the face. 🙂
I used to have the same problem with a small zong I have:
Use crushed ice instead of ice cubes!
Simple as that. You shouldn’t have any problems getting the crushed ice into the bong.
I really dont think that you can break a bong by putting it in the freezer but I’m not going to try to find out with one of my pieces. Haha.
thick glass bongs are ok ..put water in before you freeze it and dont actually let it freeze… just frosted
