Why should marijuana be legalized or the law against it be repealed?
I m more against it but then some people say they need it to deal with pain.

Because the war on drugs is not working. It simply breeds more crime. Plus our jails are full of people arrested for non-violent drug possession for small amounts of pot or even medical marijuana.
Look at Ron Paul’s reasoning on this. It is sound.
You have no right to deny people an herb like marijuana. It is a low impact drug that pales in comparison to legal alcohol and anybody who agrees it should be illegal is doing their country a great injustice.
Heroin? Coke? Meth? Yeah, those will kill you and make you an addict fast. They should be illegal.
Marijuana? That’s a joke. Its not your place to tell people whether or not they should smoke or eat or whatever else marijuana. Its not your place.
Too many reasons to count. Here are a few:
– It is unjust to lock someone up for possessing a plant.
– Marijuana prohibition doesn’t stop people from using it.
– It is an infringement upon liberty, and thus unAmerican.
– It costs billions in taxpayer dollars every year
– It is unConstitutional and an infringement upon states’ rights, not within the scope of federal government
– It is less harmful and addictive than alcohol, tobacco, or even caffeine.
– It creates organized crime and keeps sick people from getting the medicine they need.
– It prevents all the potential economic benefits that could be gained from industrialized hemp.
– It was able to instated only due to public misinformation and false propaganda.
I think it should be legalized because there is no evidence that it truly does any harm, at least no more than things that are legal. You can take just about any common item and find a way to use it in a harmful way.
Marijuana is less harmful to the body than alcohol.
There is no known overdose level.
It is less addictive than alcohol.
It has a number of medicinal uses.
Hemp is a far better renewable resource than timber.
Prison overcrowding would be slightly alleviated b/c many prisons are full of people imprisoned for non-violent marijuana offenses.
Many countries around the world have legalized marijuana with no negative effects on their society.
A big part of why it is still illegal is the perception that legalizing pot would create a pro-drug image for the United States, an idea propagated mainly by the conservative politicians/organizations. I personally think that making marijuana legal would be an incredibly positive step for this country.
because so many of us smoke it to get high instead of killing ourselves with alcohol and tobacco. i’ve been smoking it for 40 years. i used to drink a case of beer a day also, but it boosted my weight to about 375 pounds and about ruined my heart and liver. cannabis never hurt anyone
It is less dangerous than alcohol, and probably has more medical uses, so if marijuana is illegal, it only makes sense for alcohol to be illegal. Do you understand why alcohol should be legal? If you do, then you should understand why marijuana should be legal. If you don’t, look at how things turned out when we tried banning alcohol in the 1920’s.
Also, using marijuana is a victimless crime. It makes no sense in a free country to lock people up for peacefully smoking an herb in the privacy of their home, without causing any harm to anyone. It is a huge government intrusion into our personal lives, so I don’t see why so many conservatives think it should be illegal.
By the way, I’ve never used marijuana, and I don’t plan on it.
Marijuana has less of a negative effect on the human body than cigarettes, given the fact it does not contain tar. It is virtually impossible to OD on Marijuana, it’s affects are usually less dangerous than alcohol, and is a far cry safer than man-made drugs like Heroin or Cocaine.
In other words, Marijuana is closer to things like beer and cigarettes than more common “drugs” like LSD. The most probable reason Marijuana is kept from becoming legal is the fact that it’s impossible to regulate the selling of it. Huge companies like Marlboro are able to make HUGE profits off of cigarettes because you can’t just grow tobacco ANYWHERE. Marijuana, though, can be grown in many basements given the right amount of light and care. In other words, it’s impossible to sell it consistently when many people just choose to grow their own. It wouldn’t be a profit maker, that is the problem. Any politician who was ever funded or backed by a cigarette company (or any other company that would be rivaled by Marijuana’s legality) would be obligated to oppose the legalization of marijuana regardless of how they actually feel about it.
To sum it all up: because no one can make much money off of it, few politically powerful people will actually endorse the legalization of Marijuana. Of course, there is also the social stigma of Marijuana being smoked by hoodlums and bad people, but that stigma also exists for Alcohol and IT’S legal!
