Why is the war on drugs failing? How do you propose to fix it?
With so many Americans from all walks of life using “pot”, “crack”, etc. on a casual or regular basis, the demand will always be there and the “risk takers” (sellers) will have the drugs available. If 30% of the population wanted to legalize “pot”, that’s about 70 to 90 million people who might be willing to risk jail just to buy some “pot”. How can our government detain that number of citizens? How many congressmen are current users of “pot”? Just giving some food for thought. As long as we have a demand for drugs, our country will never win the war on drugs.
Legalize it my Friend. revenue will increase, tourism, controlled clean regulated rugs may be sold in government operated buildings, drug dealers will slowly decline and prison population will decrease.
Everyone loves a harmless, toothless, hairless crackhead!
It is failing because a lot of people like to use drugs. There is no way to fix it. Fixing the drug problem is like Stalin trying to fix capitalism, Hitler trying to fix Jews, or Colonial Americans trying to fix Indian savages. You can’t just make laws and fix people to your liking, you have to kill them if you really want to force your beliefs on them.
It’s a problem cause too many people like to use poison their bodies with that junk.
It is thoroughly disgusting to me, and I don’t understand it either. I thought drug addiction was usually a symptom of people with weak personalities, but this isn’t always the case. A lot of it stems from ignorance and self loathing. People don’t think that drugs are harmful, and they think it’s alright cause alcohol and cigarettes are legal, so what could be wrong with cocaine, etc.
And an important thing you’re forgetting is that many of these substances used to be legal. There’s a good program you should watch. It is called “Illegal Drugs and how they got that way”
Recreational intoxicants are here, always have been, and always will be. The only answer is to keep a general lid on it all to try to prevent all the damage we can. However we really need to get a grip on our southern border.
There is a huuuuge difference between pot and crack. The people who want to legalize pot are the ones who know how mild of an intoxicant is. Alcohol easily gets you more trashed than pot. (In fact I was so bored with the effects of pot, I have little interest in using it anymore.) Many people view the outlawing of pot as being equal to the prohibition of alcohol in the 20s. That is: it’s a ridiculous law. Pot is not harmful enough to be outlawed, people know it, and laws aren’t going to overcome people’s common sense. It’s like if you outlawed pet hamsters. Would anyone REALLY take that seriously? Maybe they would a few generations after the law started, and everyone had been fed nonsense about hamsters being very dangerous and destructive pets.. but eventually reality would win and the law would die.
That’s what’s happening with pot.
Crack.. I’ll let someone else get into crack. I don’t know if it would be better to legalize it and just tax the hell out of it, or direct more government resources towards suppressing it’s use and distribution.
Cuz we need bigger guns!
I say shoot whoever is seen doing drugs, and install cameras in everyone’s home… FREEDOM is sooo overrated!
