Why Do Folks Advocate The Legalization Of Marijuana When So Many People Have Overdosed On This Dangerous Drug?
It’s a gateway drug. Gateway to hell, according to my Pastor!

No one has ever overdosed on it, because it isn’t possible.
Because that’s not true. No one has overdosed on it.
You made the assertion, so give us an example of when that happened. Or better yet, go ask your pastor for one.
I think he broke one of your Commandments.
Your pastor is a total idiot. Alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana and it’s legal. You can OD on alcohol, not marijuana.
There is not one person anywhere on earth who has overdosed on marijuana. It is no more of a gateway drug than beer or wine or cigarettes. Your pastor is full of crap.
Tell your pastor to lay off the crack. Just because he is holding a book with a big + sign on it and wearing a fancy robe, doesn’t mean he knows anymore about what’s right and wrong than you do.
Plus, Marijuana is Impossible to OD on…
It is 100 times safer than alcohol… Fact.
And unlike the legal poison of alcohol it actually has many medical uses. Aids patients can relieve their pains…
Chemotherapy patients also could use it to ease their pains without the harmful side affects of hard pain killers… it also helps increase chemotherapy patients appetite so they want to eat and don’t just wither away….
Tell that to your pastor.
It depends on what you mean by “overdose.”
If taking enough to make you uncomfortable is what you mean by overdose, yes, it probably happens now and then.
If taking enough to kill you is what you mean by overdose, it probably hasn’t happened.
From animal studies, the lethal dose of marijuana is possibly about one third of your body weight at one time. I say “possibly” because the experiment hasn’t been done on humans. Some researchers say 1500 pounds smoked within 15 minutes is lethal.
But just because it is nonlethal, isn’t a reason by itself to legalize it.
I might be a bit suspicious of a pastor that knows so much detail about hell. I might prefer one that could describe heaven in detail instead.
I defy you to cite one legitimate case of a marijuana overdose. Your pastor is full of crap. Do a little research to get some FACTS before you go spouting off, rather that regurgitating rhetoric from your pastor, otherwise you look like a real fool.
Well, unless you’ve swallowed 3kg of prime stuff to smuggle and the casing has busted…. you won’t be ODing on marijuana. It’s not even as addictive as caffeine.
Are you the same troll as Timothy Monkeyballs? And if so, what is your fascination with different animals’ balls?
no one has ever, ever, ever oded on thc. and they never ever will. the human body cannot od on thc. even if you were to smoke weed for 24 hours strait you would die from smoke inhalation not a thc od.
This is why I find it hard to believe any religious leader. They fill you with lies at times to get their point across.
Anyway, it is more natural that the toxic Cigarettes that are killing more and more people each year. I don’t smoke marijuana, but i drink a beer now and then and If you drink beer or wine you are also consuming what could be believed as a gateway drug but yet it is still legal, but regulated by laws to protect you and others. The same can happen with marijuana, and if it is regulated by laws, yes you will have accidents and people will abuse it but I don’t think you can overdose to a point of killing yourself like alcohol. You can however get to a point that can be considered under the influence that can cause you to be in a situation that can kill you and others. That’s where the law should help but we know how that goes with respect to drinking and driving.
Why are they talking about it??? Because people are smoking up as you type, and in a sense they are smoking away billions of tax dollars that could be collected if the drug was regulated. Government companies can produce a government grade that can be distributed creating jobs and money to pay off government debt.
I think that someone in California stated that they smoke 18 billion away every day. If that is true, legalize the damn thing already.
Well lets start with the Legalization of said substance.
#1 If it is legalized the government won’t have to spend billions of dollars on the war of said substance.
#2 The said substance could be taxed on several levels, IE, The seeds, taxed at the buying level, then on the inspection part of the growing IE, the federal, and the state levels. Then there is the tax on the sales IE, federal, state, county, then finally the city. Now thats what I call a good income for the country.
Now the Gateway to hell part. As part of the High priests in the handling of the “ark of the covenant” the priests covered their body’s with a mixture of items 1 of which is the oil of said substance, other wise they were incinerated by the hand of the almighty!
fact- marijuana was outlawed by the cotton industry. {i.e.} makes a very durable cloth.
fact – Virginia’s 1st cash crop was hemp.
fact – no person has ever over dosed on weed.
fact – makes people want to eat.
fact – If I wanted a natural plant to be exterminated I would have picked poison ivy or poison oak.
Okay sorry but PEOPLE DON’T OVERDOSE ON POT. I am not saying that I agree with Pot Smoking but people don’t overdose on pot.
Not to be mean here either, but your Pastor shouldn’t talk about things that he/she knows nothing about. A gateway drug?????? I don’t know that it is a gateway drug either, some people smoke pot and never do any other form of illegal drug. Pot has been around since the Egypticians. They found traces of Pot and Cocaine in several of the mummies of Egyptician Kings.
I think people like your Pastor just get a little carried away when it comes to illegal drugs. Really it is the individuals choice if they want to do drugs. There are plenty of sins being committed, so could we say Adultery is the Gateway to Hell, yeah we could, lying is the Gateway to Hell, yep sure is, Stealing is the Gateway to Hell, yep sure is, getting my point.
Ecclesiastis says “Nothing has changed under the sun”, meaning men and women of our time are still committing the same sins they committed in the days of old.
I think it would be better said to say “SIN IS THE GATEWAY TO HELL”
Marijuana potency has grown steeply over the past decade with serious implications for users with the average amount of THC having more than doubled.
In the same period the number of admissions to psychiatric hospital caused by the drug soared by 85 per cent due to the fact that those who smoke the drug regularly are more than twice as likely to suffer illnesses such as schizophrenia, hallucinations and delusions later in life.
Teens using marijuana to alleviate feelings of depression just compound the problem.
As well as psychotic illness cannabis can cause affective disorders such as depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Even worse it is linked to cancers.
Cannabis users display neuropsychological dysfunction (relative frontal lobe functioning deficits, cognitive inhibition) and attentional deficits similar to those found in schizotypal or schizophrenia patients.
Regular use can shrink the parts of the brain which control memory, emotion and aggression. The hippocampus, which is thought to govern emotion and memory averages 12 percent smaller and the amygdala, which has a part in controlling fear and aggression, 7 percent smaller. This suggests that heavy daily use may be toxic to human brain tissue.
Blood flow velocity is significantly higher in users and they have higher values on the pulsatility index (PI), which measures the amount of resistance to blood flow. This is thought to be due to narrowing of the blood vessels that occurs when the circulation system’s ability to regulate itself is impaired. This leads to abnormalities in the small blood vessels in the brain.
The active chemical in MJ called delta-9-tetrahyrdocannabinol (THC) binds to cannabinoid (CB) receptors located on several cell types in various organs. This greatly increases the risk for heart attacks and strokes in addition to impaired learning and memory.
It can also effect physical health. Three to four cannabis cigarettes a day cause the same amount of damage to the lungs as 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day. Thus there are rising levels of lung diseases such as emphysema.
In comparison to cigarettes marijuana smoke has significantly higher levels of toxic compounds, including ammonia and hydrogen cyanide. Ammonia levels are 20 times higher while hydrogen cyanide, nitric oxide and certain aromatic amines occurred at levels 3-5 times higher.
It can also effect the unborn child. Scientists have identified that endogenous cannabinoids, molecules naturally produced by our brains are functionally similar to THC from cannabis and play significant roles in establishing how certain nerve cells connect to each other. Maternal cannabis use allows THC to travel through the placenta and impair fetal brain development and impose life-long cognitive, social, and motor deficits in affected offspring.
Low doses of Ä-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), equivalent to that in the bloodstream of an average marijuana smoker facilitate infection of skin cells and can cause these cells to turn into malignant sarcoma. Men who regularly smoke cannabis have a 70 per cent increased risk of testicular cancer.
And then there are all the car crashes caused by people driving under the influence of drugs that are at this moment being quantified but already show that more drug drivers kill than drink drivers!!
you can’t OD from it like you would Heroin or even alcohol, but long-term use carries a risk of mental health issues. i have a friend at Uni, he is only an accasional cannabis smoker, but since he started Cannabis he has developed OCD and depressive symptoms. i worry about him because if you have mental illness tendancies then you shouldn’t start smoking weed. Try tell him that, though.
You cannot OD on marijuana. No one has ever OD’ed on it in the over 4,000 years humans have been smoking it. and its a gateway to hell? nonsence! God created all plants and forests to sustain us.
