Granted, it’s not the most important issue but these guys are both strong supporters of that document that all the other candidates ignore: The Constitution. Based on the constitution, there is no legal reason why marijuana shouldn’t be legal.
It doesnt matter what either one them thinks about it. Thinking that way, and getting Congress and the Senate to agree with you are two different things.
I had heard this. Far right and far left sometimes agree, odd as it might seem. I don’t think it should be legalized except perhaps for people with cancer and intractable pain.
I realize I might be in the minority here, but….
It might be easier just to legalize pot. Tax the heck out of it to the point that it was truly helping the education system or something along those lines (but NOT welfare). Our prisons will be less crowded. I do think the reason so many people smoke pot is for the thrill of “getting away with it.” At some point you have to let people make their own decisions and stop making them for them.
I fully support legalizing marijuana. Look at the Netherlands for an example of how making it legal can actually REDUCE the usage. According to the United Nations, 5.2 percent of Dutch 12 and older had used marijuana or hashish in the past year — less than half the 12.3 percent rate in the United States. In Amsterdam the people packing the coffee houses are almost always foreigners. The Dutch have made getting high boring. There’s no illegal thrill, no sense of rebellion, and consequently people looking to strike back at society have to turn somewhere else. The only ones who light up are the ones who enjoy getting stoned for its own sake. Right now we’re spending millions to fight it, millions to incarcerate non-violent offenders, and the usage rate keeps increasing. Why waste our time and money? If it were legal and taxed we would be saving a ton of money, crime would go down (how often do you see drive-by’s over cigarettes or beer?), we’d actually be bringing IN money, and less people would be using! Prohibition simply doesn’t work. Did you know that alcohol consumption actually INCREASED during the prohibition years? We’re seeing the exact same trends with marijuana today. It’s time we learned from history and quit making the same mistakes of the past.
