What do you think it would be like if ALL drugs were legalized? Is it a good idea?
And by this I mean you can go to a government building, fill out paperwork, and get a cocaine, heroin or marijuana license and be on your way. You can use this license to purchase drugs at a pharmacy. In order to obtain this license you must be an adult.
Before you answer this questions, ask yourself these questions:
How would this effect crime?
Would drug use go up for hard drugs like cocaine and heroin? What about more tame drugs like pot?
Would you be more inclined to experiment with drugs?
Do you think this will make children more vulnerable?
Will this result in crazed crack addicts running down our streets injected our precious youth with heroin and ruining ammuuurica?
@Scott – you just incorrectly assumed I’m in support of this. I’m actually undecided hence the question. And you only answered half of the question. I also asked what you think it would be like if this was a reality
No, it’s not a good idea. You’d want to legalize METH and Heroine?? No offense, but that’s the stupidest thing that I’ve ever heard.
1) it would affect crime by taking it out of the hands of criminals that sell it.
2) i could see drug use for the harder drugs to increase just because of the availability but marijuana use will not increase very much at all.
3) i am already inclined to experiment with drugs such as psychedelics cocaine ecstasy and painkillers. i know that they can be harmful if abused so i do not do them very often. its not the fact they they are illegal that scares me away from them. it is my knowledge of them that scares me. drugs like meth, crack, and heroine i will never try and have no curiosity of those drugs or ever will.
4) having drugs illegal makes children more vulnerable. the drugs are put into the hands of criminals and they are the ones deciding who gets to purchase them. when you have to get a certain “license” to purchase them the government can more easily track the users and better control situations caused by the drugs.
5) no that will never happen. you don’t see people running down the streets with alcohol and cigarettes handing them out to children do you? no. if we legalize drugs and increase penalties for such crimes as violence and robberies people will be more inclined to think twice before they hurt others.
i do not believe drugs like crack, meth and heroine should even exist. hell i don’t feel that alcohol and tobacco should exist because of the number of people it kills. but people need to start taking responsibility for their own actions. too many of us put the blame for our misfortunes and poor choices on everyone and everything but themselves. someone who is fat will blame mcdonalds and kfc when it was their choice to regularly eat bad food. parents will blame their child’s misbehavior on rap music or violent video games when its the parents fault for not regulating what their child does. it is their own choice to be lazy and slack on parenting. just like its an alcoholics choice to drink heavily everyday. it is a potheads own personal choice to sit around all day smoking weed. if a person is unhappy with the choices they’ve made then it is their own problem and the blame should not be put onto others
Fact: Humans always have had the NEED to do drugs and will always have the NEED to do drugs in future. It’s human nature. It’s a psychological need to do drugs for crying out loud. Now let us get to the topic of legalization. Legalization has nothing to do with accessibility, that’s a completely different issue. Also, legalization implies regulations of what you can and cannot do. Just think of alcohol. The golden rule of drug regulations… or any rule is that it doesn’t matter what you do as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else. If you don’t follow those rules you get punished. It’s really pretty simple. A illegal versus legal environment are pretty much the same. We already have alcohol and cigarettes not to mention countless unregulated drugs that are similar to illegal drugs operating in our current environment. It’s not like there are crack heads running done the street already doing crazy shit already. They just would get charged for the crazy shit that they did and not both possession and the crazy shit. You get it. It’s the actions that being charged. Initially, legalization will have a slight initial increase of drug use and then things will stabilize. Harder drugs however(as shown by Amsterdam when they essentially legalized heroin) will likely not go up very much if at all. Children are not more vulnerable. There are regulations of what people can do around kids as with alcohol and cigarettes. Are those people seriously a threat to you now? If not, then having designated outlets where people’s age must be validated before giving out the drugs should be fine. Exactly like going to the liquor store. To sum up, should all drugs be legalized? Yes, because it is inherently wrong to say what a person should do. Let the person make the choices and if that makes a poor choice that affects others then by all means punish them, otherwise its noone’s business. Also, people that do drugs and are the scum rats of world are going to do them regardless of legality.
