The jail usually decides the punishment for contraband charge. In some instances if caught the person can be charged with a new street charge for bringing contraband into a correctional facility.
depending on what is being smuggled into prison is how a judge would sentence you but in the billy ochoa case of 2004 a man was sentenced 10 onths and fined 5000 dollars for smuggling a kaybar knife into prison for ciggarettes and etc. you woud most likely get fined 500 dollars or 20 days in prison your choice.
No consequences for the smuggler, but if the prisoner gets caught with the s**t, his visitation priveleges might be cancelled for a month. The way things are now, guys are too smart to get caught anymore. Cigarettes or tobacco is a big deal in prison. Guys know how to outsmart the screws and not get caught.
I was under the impression that cigs and lighters were not illegal to have so that is something the inmate has access to if they have the funds…
but yes there are consequences for both you and the inmate.
You’d see a lot of hospitality, in fact they would invite you be be their guest!
