want to be a pharmacy technician but a year ago i got a ticket for a misdeminor marajuana charge i was 18yrold
i live in chino california. i read this in the california laws: (If you were convicted of possession of marijuana for personal use then you do not necessarily need to get a dismissal for the offense. Under California Health and Safety Code Sections 11361.5 and 11361.7 all possession of marijuana for personal use convictions, after January 1, 1976, are erased from your record after two years)
Is this true and would this still affect me in background checks to become certified. also would this affect me in other jobs as well after the two years
It wouldn’t legally affect you but a business may look at your offense and give the job to a different person so you may have a problem finding work.
See what California says about this situation. If every 18 year old who smoked marajuana was denied employment California would have to let more illegals in to fill the job voids.
If you were convicted of posession for personal use in CA, it should be expunged from your record in two years from the conviction. However, most general employment applications ask something along the lines of: “Have you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor (other than a minor traffic violation)?” While that won’t necessarily rule you out of a job, each state’s board regarding pharmacy licensing varies so I would suggest that you contact them directly. You can call them in Sacramento at (916) 574-7900. They can tell you if it will have any impact on your future career. It’s good to know before you pursue it.
In Illinois, it could possible stop you from becoming a pharm tech. It would depend on the Board of Pharmacy. If the incident happened years ago, you’re probably good.
