Troublesome tenants: is there a way I can anonymously report drug activity?
I moved into a condo in September. It is a winter rental and the lease is up in May. Up until December, it was a great place to live. There were only about 5 other tenants that were living in the complex, and everyone just peacefully kept to themselves. Suddenly, literally in the middle of a December night, a tenant moved into the unit that is diagonally below me. They slam the front door throughout the day so hard that it literally shakes the pictures on my wall. Doesn’t matter if it is 2AM, 2PM, entering or exiting.. SLAM. extremely nerve wracking, especially when it’s done several times an hour. as far as I know, there is only one person living in the unit, but he often has several people over and I can actually smell the cigarette and pot smoke. not sure if it’s coming from the heating vents or what, but my living room has essentially turned into a bar where smoking is still permitted. not only is this unpleasant, but it terribly aggravates my allergies. he and his friends also have a habit of parking in my assigned spot. one day, I happened to catch one of the fellows getting out of his car (in my spot). I let him know that he was parking in my spot, and he got nasty with me, saying that there were plenty of other spots for me to park (suggesting that I be so arrogant as him and to park in someone else’s own assigned spot). he then went into the unit without moving his car. judging from the frequent traffic that I see throughout the day (at least 5 different cars stop by to only spend less than 2 minutes at his front door..), he is selling drugs. each condo is independently owned by different people, so unfortunately this is not a matter of complaining to the landlord. I spoke with the condo association president in november re: electrical issues, and it was like talking to a brick wall. this is considered a “resort town” and most of the unit owners don’t even live in-state. I suppose I could have the vehicle towed, but I really do not want to personally get into it with these people.. honestly, they scare me. since I’m only here for a few more months, I’m just going to grin and bear it.. but I guess my questions are, what can I do about this? surprisingly they don’t blast music, so it’s not like I can call the cops and complain about them slamming doors (I don’t think I can, anyway). but upon moving out, I would love to report these scumbags. is there any possible way that you can truly anonymously (I don’t really even want the cops to know my name.. my luck, his uncle is the captain or something) report someone for suspected drug dealing? as I said before, I know for a fact that there is a LOT of pot being smoked down there.. and unless he gets a lot of swarthy looking male avon sellers a day, the dude is dealing drugs.
yes, all you have to do is ring the police. all calls are kept anonymous if the caller wishes to be.
good luck.. 🙂
my father owns a 6 plex apt in canada, have it im 14 years old and don’t know much, a telephone call to police from a pay phone reporting whats going on would be my way to do things… there was drug problems in the apt my dad owned, legit flagged down a passing patrol car, told the officer what was going on, the cop went with him to the unit, cop banged on the door, they were evicted , arrested, an called a scum bag by the cop :p faced ppossession, possesion with intent to sell, and selling an illegal substance. or something like that. all i know is the cop helped a lot 🙂 there friendly people, my father is a firefighter with alot of cop frinds and if something is happining that shouldnnt they like to know about it. if you want your name not to be said, im sure they wont ask for it, just go intto the station and leave a tip. good luck, i doubt this helped but … yeah.
all the best, James
