Tough question for all the marijuana advocates?
OK, so let’s say that in the 30’s, marijuana became illegal not because of the safety concern but due to a racist agenda based on the hatred toward the Mexicans taking up jobs during the Great Depression. Let’s say it all gets to do with politics rather than the “concern for the public” issue as fabricated by the government.
Why, then, are the VAST majority of the countries still have marijuana as an ILLEGAL substance, and only a handful of countries and state have them decriminalized ( = not completely legal)? Surely the Mexicans can’t be that much of a concern in Europe, and even in the Netherlands the marijuana is not fully legal (the status is put as “decriminalized”).
Makes you think about the impact narcs has on an individual. If America was one of the FEW countries that put pot smokers to jail, then I would reconsider my stance. But when the rest of the World is following it, ther’es got to be a legitimate reason for it.
Did someone watch Natgeo yesterday too?

this is a perfect example.
it’s all about the money. Keeping it illegal mean there’s high demand for it in the black market, which is much more profitable.
And your statement about why it was made illegal is wrong.
Marijuana advocates don’t do tough questions, dude.
I’m not an advocate, but I wouldn’t mind if it were made legal IF I could be assured I wouldn’t end up supporting the “Spicoli’s” who can’t keep any kind of job because they lose all responsibility and ambition over their habit. This would mean drug testing unemployment and welfare recipients.
Because, it can be used for paper, rope, plastics, engine fuel, and a multitude of other products. It is easily grown even in harsh environments, and as the such no one company would have a monopoly over it.
It’s because Mexican pot isn’t worth the plastic bag it’s packaged in – it’s like weak, foul-tasting grass clippings.
Come on up here to BC, we’ll show you a good time, some decent bud and give you a real beer while we’re at it.
Your logic is really underwhelming. It sound like your civics teacher gave you a homework assignment and said you must incorporate the words, “Great Depression, Mexicans, Europe, and the Netherlands”.
It’s only a matter of time. 100 years ago, women weren’t allowed to vote, and the majority of the world was the same. America is not a sheep that follows the rest of the herd.
Did you know, marijuana isn’t addictive, contrary to popular opinion, and that alcohol and tobacco is FAR more deadly? Remember the Prohibition? Crime went up, people died because of poisoning. People are smoking weed, whether it’s legal or illegal, it’s a matter of the 200,000 victimless “criminals” that take up our tax dollars and prison tax and take attention away from robbers, murderers, and rapists.
It won’t be allowed to be smoked in public, btw
Based ENTIRELY on YOUR rationale, alcohol should be treated EXACTLY like marijuana.
Why isn’t it?
That is silly.
Try breathalyzers do not work. The government are the dealers. Etc etc. Hard to tax because we can grow are own. Socialist want discord to make it easier to take us over.
Those are some of the real reasons.
Not your racist mumbo jumbo.
Because the “Single Convention” prohibits *any* country from ever legalizing marijuana. We are the mindless pawns destined to shoulder the mistakes of the past.
we’re america
we don’t care about the rest of the world
/end conservative impression
Here are my problems with your argument:
-The theory that it is illegal only because of racism towards Mexicans is not really true. There were many reasons that there was a lobby against it. The Mexican immigrants have been put forth as one argument, but there is also an argument that black jazz singers were using it and it was thus deemed “undesirable.” The primary reason it became illegal is because of the timber lobby. Hemp is an OBVIOUSLY better paper source than trees, and when it began to threaten the timber lobby they started putting out strong propaganda against it. They even commissioned studies that (not surprisingly) found that it was a dangerous drug that made people rape, murder and steal. At least one man went to jail during that time on the premise the he murdered a bunch of people while high on marijuana. Watch “Reefer Madness.” If you’ve ever smoked pot or been around people who smoke pot, you know what absolute idiocy that movie was. Pot isn’t exactly great for productive societies, but neither is alcohol! People who smoke it get happy, then hungry, then sleepy. That’s IT.
-My second problem with your argument is the idea that if other countries have deemed it illegal, then it must be bad. That’s kind of the “if your friends jumped off a bridge” argument, isn’t it? Other countries have lobbies and propaganda too. It’s better to make your decision based on facts, accurate studies, and empirical evidence.
I’ll be honest, I’ve smoked before. I mean hell, I went to college! It was a great way to just chill during recreation time. My friends and I would smoke and watch movies, instead of going to the bars, getting drunk, and spending all our money. Pot never made me vomit. It gets rid of headaches and menstrual cramps.
I used to smoke cigarettes, and they hurt my lungs so I never wanted to exercise. I quit smoking (thank God), and pot has never had the same effect on my lungs as cigarettes. I can smoke one night and go jogging the next morning. I’m not saying there aren’t ANY negative health effects, but there are certainly fewer than cigarettes.
I would love to have peer-reviewed studies NOT funded by one lobby or another, to get to the bottom of the true effects of pot. The few that have been done really blow the old ones out of the water – it doesn’t kill brain cells, it doesn’t make you rape and murder. It’s a pretty benign substance – you just have to use it responsibly because it makes you lazy.
TY!!!
This is what I ALWAYS been wondering! America is not the only country where marijuana is ilegal. The plant is ILLEGAL for the ENTIRE PLANET on every country and every continent. Its not just america. Its probably a worldwide government conspiracy to protect the pharmaceutical industry, the beer industry, the prison industry and everything they wanna do all for money. They hate seeing people help themselves with something that works.
