Soil for Butterwort (pinguicula caerulea)?
I’m trying my hand at growing a little butterwort that was just mailed to me. The seller sent some long fibered New Zealand sphagnum moss, a bit of what looks like perlite, and a 3 inch net pot. Information I’ve found online has varied quite a bit on the best soil mix for carnivorous plants, so I’m wondering if I should stick with what he sent (and if so, what ratio of moss to perlite), or should I go buy peat moss and/or something else? And should the ingredients of the soil be mixed together, or should I try to do layers of some sort? I live in north/middle Georgia and plan to try this thing in a sunny window and with distilled water put in a tray underneath it… Thanks!
The soil that produces the best plants should be a peat sand (or Perlite) mixture and usually quite wet, since they grow in peaty organic soils they are used to soils that are low in fertility.
I would personally use medium grade Perlite instead of sand, but sand with sharp edges will work.
