There is a new proposal by Tom Ammiano in the California state government to completely legalize pot to those over 21. It could bring in lots of money in taxes and save lots in the legal system. Gov. @buckup23 Actually, it will be illegal to drive high, be high in public, etc. It will be treated just like alcohol. You will even have to be 21 to purchase it and it is off limits to anyone under 21. Also, it’s been proved to have no bad effects on your health.
I feel like we all live in some alternate universe where the laws are extremely irrational. I mean, we make alcohol and cigarettes (kills millions) legal, but make weed illegal (hasn’t harmed a soul). I wish I could have been born in the universe where people smoke weed and the world is peaceful but unfortunately, I’m stuck in the world where poisons like alcohol and cigarettes are widely used and very acceptable…

@buckup23 Pot made me happier. Therefore I had more initiative to accomplish things (i.e. pull up my grades). My friends and I smoke pot for recreational purposes. It’s the same thing as going to skateboard with your friends or anything like that (which I do too). And I’ve researched plenty of facts on marijuana weeks before I even started, so when I have kids, I’ll teach them the true facts about weed instead of brainwashing them like most people.
@hisanta32 i dont think it was the pot that changed your grades, i think it was just you, but thats the kind of friends you want that will only hangout with you if you smoked, so thats what you will teach your kids or any kids that if you want good friends, smoke pot.
a lot of people r talkin about is how it will be good to the economy, but no one is thinking about how it will affect people, health and safety. it’ll be more people out on the streets getting on my damn nerves selling that shit, what do you all teach your kids, thats its ok, so stupid, people wont focus right at work or driving, you’ll have so many cars filled with smoke, more accidents, people will become more stupid than they already are, its a lot of bad to this, all u think about is money

I was making a comparison. Read the second to last sentence in my original post and you’ll see the connection I made between legalizing marijuana and Ebonics. Also, it is very possible that more people will try and become used to marijuana just because it is legal. And if marijuana is legalized, there can be more high people on the road and in public, killing other people and causing nuisances – just like alcohol does. Overall, people can’t be trusted with their own judgment.
@tudorjason One … ebonics have nothing to do with marijuana, so get your facts straight … becuase that just makes you look ignorant. two… no there wont be more potheads out there, because if you wanted to do it… you would’ve done it by now. Just because it’s legalized doesnt mean more people are willing to buy it … it just means it’s easier to obtain. Oh and marijuana ONLY smokers have no harmful affects projected upon themselves, 0 people a year die from marijuana use alone. .
The price will not necessarily go down. When i was in southern Spain/France, there was cheap weed for about 2€/grams. (from Marokko)
However, in the Netherlands it is not that cheap. The quality is better (controlling) and you have dozens of different sorts, but it is not cheaper. But I think there are many cartells/oligopols involved in the drug market, free competition could really decrease the price…
Shouldn’t it be a human right, to consume what you want? The state only has the righ to protect yourself from the really bad shit, but why should the state have the right to take away your personal freedom of consuming quite harmless pot?

Initially, if California make weed legal it will be a boom to the economy, but if other states follow suit, I think it would have a net negative effect on the economy, as people would not rush to California to live in a free state. That would be awesome for awhile. I would move out of Georgia, my buddy sold an ounce of weed here and somehow ended up with over ten years on probation due to complications. I think he got in a fight in jail or something.
