Like the illustration on the container they come in, these papers burn to reveal a thin wire that runs the length of the joint.
The only complaint I’ve ever heard about these is that, due to the relatively uncommon method of holding these (By the wire rather than by the end closest to the mouth), people sometimes spill a lot of ash. This is probably due to them not being used to holding the wire, however.
