Process to pass law for legalizing marijuana?
Hi, I need to write a paper on how I would go about legalizing marijuana. For example I need to know who I would need to go to, then where it goes from there through all the courts and what happens in them. Then how it would be passed and how long it might take. Basically I need to know the process of how a law gets passed. If you can answer any of these it will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
first you have to kill all the big pharmaceutical company lobbyists, and then second thing you do is legalize marijuana.
Well congress would have to pass a bill that would legalize marijuana on the federal. If you want to learn how a bill is passed, it’s best to look at what’s going on in congress right now with healthcare reform. Anyway, House passes bill, senate passes bill, bills are merged, house passes merged bill, senate passes merged bill, goes to President. The bill would likely allow states to decide on whether they will legalize pot, sort of how the end of prohibition allowed States to decide themselves on the legality of alcohol.
The other way, is of course what my state (Oregon) is doing.

as it’ll probably do a better job explaining what Oregon NORML is doing on the state level. If legalizing marijuana is on the ballot in 2010, it’ll allow all registered voters in Oregon to vote on it… We’ve passed radical laws like medical marijuana and assisted suicide, so it’ll be interesting what voters will do with legalizing and taxing marijuana.
If that passes, the US Attorney General may try and stop what’s going on in Oregon because marijuana is illegal federally. Of course, that all depends on what Obama wants to do. During the Bush years, he tried to end our assisted suicide program. Went all the way to the Supreme Court, Oregon won, go us. Anyway, Obama has said he isn’t going after people that follow state medical marijuana laws. Perhaps he’ll say the same thing about States that outright legalizes marijuana. Course, is President GOP comes in, that could all change. Funny how they say they’re the party of less government and regulations… hypocrites.
this has all your questions and answers. we are in the process to put this on the ballot for next year.
