Pharmacy or Accounting?
Hello, I’m 25 years old and I have started my accounting degree this September at a community college and only one semester in and planned on getting a master degree in accounting and a C.P.A. license. I picked this career because it seems like something I like and was told I would get paid $100k a year or something close to that. After doing some research, I’ve read that accountants with degrees work up to 80 hours a week and only get paid for 40 which is something I’m definitely not into. I wouldn’t mind working those hours, but i want to get paid for it. One thing I also like about this profession is the unlimited opportunity and salary you could accomplish. I know I’m just starting my classes, but accounting seems very easy and pretty much anyone could do it. I kind of want a profession that not just anyone could do, and i kind of like a challenge when it comes to school at least. Now that I’m almost done with my first semester in accounting I’ve been thinking about pharmacy. I really think i would like pharmacy as a profession. I always had an interest in learning about science. I also always wanted to be some kind of doctor, but now that I’m 25 4 years of undergraduate then 4 years of medical school plus 2 years of residency sounds like too long and too ambitious. I’ve read that to become a pharmacist it only takes 2 years of prerequisite and 4 years of medical school and an optional 2 year residency, which i would probably do, the same time a master in accounting would take. I’ve read that starting pay for pharmacist are $100k a year and potential to earn up to $150k. I really don’t want to start all over from scratch into pharmacy, I know it’s only one semester, but i worked hard that semester and only course i could use for pharmacy is my math. I also have a criminal record from when i was 21,or 22, I forget, for a cocaine charge. I was caught with very little and i never got addicted to it, but I was thinking about getting it expunged and that is my only charge, besides a one year filing i got when i was 18 for a marijuana roach. My questions here are what is life like as a C.P.A and a pharmacist? Do pharmacist get paid for their overtime hours? Will my record, even when expunged, be an issue when it comes to going for my pharmacy license? Please, I would only like replies from real life accountants and pharmacists or students in this field about this information and their experiences.
