Legalize Pot to End Border Violence?
Not every illegal immigrant crossing over is bringing drugs with them. So how do we set the record straight, and have a serious conversation about drug war policies, and drug war violence, without involving immigrants who cross the border to find a better life? Michael Whitney, online organizer for Fire Dog Lake Action says the real problem is the cartels not the people coming to the US to work. He explains how legalizing marijuana would suppress the drug cartels.
@iago68 – Made up by eurocentric idealogy to rape the land for its resources.
@chyn4d0ll – Truth!
@chyn4d0ll indians did not originate here, either. they danced their asses across the bering strait. WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS STUPID
Wouldn’t legalizing cause more violence from certain gangs trying to monopolize the product?
Less federal government in general would help get many things passed state by state. And when passed at the state level less likely the feds would show up to shut things down. Many people even social conservatives actually are fine with decriminalization or medical use. So if it couldn’t be flat out legalized, try that first and slowly the evidence could be shown and eventual legalization could be sold to the harshest of critics. I really don’t see it being legalized at a federal level.
every one in America has a ancester that was not from america if your not native american then why say immigrant? WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS STUPID
@bpentium im not sure you understand the principle of supply and demand. nor do you understand the principles governing human motivation. it is hard to in this context imagine a more ignorant statement than “Cartels are making money because they are violent criminals” that further shows you dont even have a grasp on the principles of causation. your world view is so distorted i do not have time enough here to enlighten you, educate yourself and remain silent. peace.
@overloadedgame
Oh boo hoo. The poor drug dealers will have to get real jobs like everybody else. Think of it this way. All the jobs you couldn’t get before because you smoked weed, you could then, because they would no longer fire you for smoking it. There would be more opportunities open up so you wouldn’t even have to deal drugs anymore.. People would still buy from dealers anyways because they may sell it cheaper, have better bud, or may be more convenient to pick it up from.
moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
lol @ 0:15
@DistortedBrain but with the difference that you don’t destroy other people’s life if you smoke weed…
@PostalDudePorn I don’t like arguing on Youtube. But your argument is if it was legal, everyone wouldn’t be in trouble, less people committing crimes.. That’s because it would be legalized… That’s like saying legalize murder and less people would be in jail
so many good things would happen if marijuana got legalized.. less people doing illegal actions, less distributing, if they made it into like cigarettes, less under-age smokers, the grow ops would be possibly put out of business, less people in jail, less tax money used for the inmates in prison, more money spent on schools, etc. Life would be so good if it was a legal, but y’all ain’t gonna legalize it, i don’t want it legalized anyways cause i like grow ops.
if pot becomes legal poor ppl that sell it to make money to feed there families will have to find another way to make money. do you realy want to fuck them over just to get high in front of a cop. burn in hell
To make marijuana legal will put a large dent in a lot of pockets in Washington and in the so called justice system. After the drug becomes legal does this mean the US government will be forced to free all the people jailed that were busted for marijuana ?
americans will never legalize marijuana there to proud to admit they were wrong in making it illegal in the first place plus it makes them big money to fund there black projects..
@bpentium your a moron to say Marijuana should not be legal, Marijuana is part of nature not man made so making mother nature illegal is unatural and senseless u.s has also made it illegal to grow your own crops and generations from now dumb idiot like yourself will be saying growing your own crops should be illegal cause its harmful to our health you need to be bitch slaped
This moron needs to visit the border for a while. What a retard.
I think Michael is high in this interview.
Cartels are making money because they are violent criminals. It doesn’t have anything to do with pot. If they legalized pot the criminals would find something else to traffic that will involve the same amount of violence. Seems like potheads just don’t understand this.
legalize it!
CIA: Stop black operations, violence and terrorism in Mexico!
keep smuggling cocaine from Cuba to Florida… we don’t care! STOP VIOLENCE
STOP TERRORISM! terrorism is for cowards and savages!
@moniot1977 “I would love to see where you get your information from. $400lb to $38?”
That’s from a report released by the Rand Corp.’s Drug Policy Research Center July 2010.
“the Netherlands is a completely different country and can not use their past because we are a much different country than they are.”
We have other countries, such as Portugal, which have had similar success with legalization, and our own experience (in the US) with alcohol prohibition.
@recompile can you please tell us where you are getting your “estimates” I would love to see where you get your information from. $400lb to $38? And the Netherlands is a completely different country and can not use their past because we are a much different country than they are.
@swampfaye “and actually, crime went up at the end of prohibition, not down as you claim. Look at the statistics.”
That’s normal, as we’ve learned from the Netherlands — post prohibition crime rates increase temporarily (just like usage) as the market adjusts, followed by a steady decline.
Post prohibition alcohol related crime followed the same pattern. We don’t see bootleggers shooting at one another, now do we?
@swampfaye “Did the end of prohibition stop the mafia?”
I’d have to say yes. Ending prohibition nearly completely destroyed them. Sure, a few vestiges still exist, but our cities are no longer under siege. Of course, mafia industries included gambling, prostitution, and other unlawful activities.
Gangs are now funded by drugs. The underground markets fuel organized crime.
In the Netherlands, prostitution is legal and the violence is fueled by cultural integration issues not drug problems.
