It’s time to stop the insanity! Proposition 19 did not pass in California. Harry Anslinger is the father of the war on drugs. The government has been at war with it’s own citizens for 70 years over a plant! Marijuana is much safer than alcohol which is legal! Pot smokers don’t belong in cages with criminals. Brilliantly argued. But right-wing demagoguery, and left-wing fear of same, will never allow the legalisation of marijuana, I’m afraid. It’s also clear that the alcohol industry would not welcome the competition. Any clear-thinking person who really cares about human welfare would legalise marijuana, but clear thought and genuine caring are sadly in short supply,.
Step 1: Legalize Weed
Step 2: Tax the shit out of it and make it available at Wal-Mart
Step 3: BOOMING ECONOMY
Step 4: I can finally try it (everyone I know and their mother smokes it) and not lose my job due to a random drug test.
what you say is true, and it is the biggest reason why it hasn’t been legalized thus far. but prop 19 will be voted on in a week, and there’s nothing any corporate interests can do to stop it.
It really gets me that Amsterdam has the best education system in the world then America and Amsterdam legalize marijuana . I think our congressmen and all our political leaders are just a bunch of ignorant morons and have all the religious and racism influences in our country this is why the Americans have no freedoms. If we legalize marijuana the people would use it more often and said of crystal math that is killing themselves and can make the Mexican cartels go broke.
The reason it is classified as a drug is because of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938. “”… articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals …” Section 201, paragraph (g) if you’d like to look it up yourself.
Having never dealt with marijuana myself, I can nonetheless see a reason why it will never be legalized in this country. The alcohol and tobacco industries won’t allow it. The pharmaceutical companies won’t allow it. Imagine a plant with no harmful side effects that can act as an analgesic, calmitant and sleep inducer…it would put these people out of business! It’s all about profits, and that’s it. It’s also about imprisoning minorities in private prisons for profit. Period.
The negative stigma about pot exists, regardless of how it was delibratly enacted. There are a huge number of people in this country who don’t smoke it and hate it as much as any hard drug. That, and the way the Right uses non-issues like this to further their real political goals, (getting rich I think). makes legalizing it extremely difficult. The powers that be don’t want to be in a position to condone it, which legalizing it does. So my question for you is, how? How do we change this?
I’m not American, but seeing California on the cutting edge of this fascinating social experiment arouses great interest for me to see what the real results on the local economy will be, and whether long-time smaller local growers in Humboldt county etc will be able to survive the huge competition that will be brought in. I support the rationale behind Prop 19 and rather despise Obama for declaring himself against it in a demonstration of genuine hipocrisy. Perhaps other states may follow suit.
Jeez, why can’t people just respect and abide by the law of the land!! I mean the government wouldn’t pass unjust or unreasonable laws!! They are there for the safety and happiness of the people! We should just trust the system. The government has never failed the people before, so why change the law?
And they do. I’ve mentioned legalization to a couple of dealers and their inevitable response is something like “man they need to stop that shit i’m tryin to make money”
ummm…cheaper?? it has done quite the opposite. high grade weed is literally worth more than its weight in gold. if it were regulated and mass produced and distributed, it would go for < $50/oz., before taxes. still, easily under 100 bucks all said and done, and we're talking top shelf dank here.
remember ” reefer madness” 450,000 people a year die from Alcohol releted death, 250,000 a year die from from tobacco related death, and yes, not one sinfle documented case of anyone dyind from the direct use of cannabis. think of the uses, rope, twine, help for aids victims, help for cancer patients with glacoma and cacer, help with anorexics with weight problems, best pain reliver in history, etc, etc, etc, tax it, legalize the tree of life, cut crime off, great video
As always well reasoned and well researched. Thanks OF. If only people were influenced by reason and facts rather than the hysteria of bullshit and fear but then Fox New would be broke and a Tea Party would be a few old people sitting around a scones, cookies, biscuits and cups of tea talking about their gardens.
Wish people like you would have have at least an equally sized audience as the loudmouthed ignorant fuckwhits of the world, thank you for your presence.
