Yes, it’s called CANINE TRAINING, can you bark?
If it’s smokey and smells like someone ran over a skunk, it’s POT.
yes…weed i stinky…but good stinky
They have drug sniffing dogs that help them with that. because their sense of smell is much more sensitive, still the smell of marijuana is pretty unmistakebale.
most cops started their marijuana training in high school, like er’body else, when they smoked a lil weed too, like er’body else….
Yes, they actually have these little waffers that they burn that smell like marijuana.
They send them to a reggae concert
If so its a waste of my taxs dollars crack down on dranking and driving not marijuana. Give me one example of when someone smoked a joint got behind the wheel and killed someone due to being high on weed. I bet you know someone that is dead from someone dranking and driving.
I believe what you’re asking is how a police officer recognizes the smell of marijuana. When you attend the police academy (in Connecticut anyway) they give the cadets a course to familiarize them with what all the different drugs that are out on the street. You get to see what each drug look like, how it’s usually packaged and in the case of marijuana they burn a small amount so that the cadets know what it smells like. Being that marijuana has a very unique odor once you’ve smelled it it’s always easily recognizable.
If someone is charged with possession of marijuana and it ends up going to trial one of the questions the defendant’s attorney is going to ask the officer is how he knows he was smelling marijuana and the officer will answer that as part of his training a small quantity of marijuana was burned at the academy to familiarize him or her with the distinct odor.
Hope this helps.
Yeah, it’s called high school and college. But since the legal world is uncomfortable with the truth that most people have smoked marijuana at least once the police have BS classes where some instructor will burn some weed so everybody can smell it ans testify that they have “received training on the recognition of marijuana odor “. It is beyond stupid.
Anybody who has ever smoked marijuan can recognize the smell. IF you smoke pot regularly in your car it is gonna smell like a pot smokers car. I mean jeez, its common sense.
You never noticed how happy cops are to talk about their academy training?
99% of people either have tried pot or been around the stank of it. and anyway if you start as an officer and you’ve never smelled ganja, than when you and your FTO get someone for burning up in a car, he will explain to you that its the smell of good ole marijuana
not to mention the class in the academy.

1st trip around the block? you better sit on the curb, or quit. either way, your not smart enough to get away with much…..
Yes there is training in the detection of the odor of burning marijuana. Marijuana simulator tablets, similar to incense, is burned in the class room. When I was in MP school in the army they actually burned marijuana. Narcs also use the simulator tablets to smoke up there car so it smells like they just smoked weed in it. I once crushed some up and rolled it up with some cigarette tobacco to use on an undercover assignment. The guy I smoked it with told me it was some really good sh*t. It’s has a very realistic smell.
They burned some pot in my academy. As a non-smoker I can smell someone smoking dozens of feet away, in a moving vehicle. Its just an extra sensitive nose. Smelling pot burning is very easy. When you don’t smoke it and you smell it, you know it. Your windows being up doesn’t stop the scent from escaping.
how could you not know what it smells like? i dont think they would have to train for it when they come into contact with it everyday, they should just already know!
