Is the administration going to disregard the Constitution AGAIN?
California’s Proposition 19, the move to legalize marijuana, is under fire by the U.S. “Justice” Department. If passed, that proposition could SAVE California about $1,000,000,000/year in enforcement costs and GAIN California several billion in taxes as well as create jobs.
I remind everyone of the 10th amendment to our Constitution, the one that the politicians hate most after Amendments 2 and 1 (in that order).
FYI, the 10th amendment severely LIMITS the POWER of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT but…
in 1861, the fed started the bloodiest war in our history pitting father against son, brother against brother, even mother against son in their illegal move to refuse the state’s rights to administer their own laws and to grab power from the people.
Remember, our government is founded on “OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE” but, (say it softly!) _only_ if such sentiment furthers the power of those federalists who already have all too much power.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
PASS PROP 19!!!!
You make a good point and it is well taken. As a person that lived in Alaska in the 70’s when pot was legal to grow and smoke in your home or on private property and it was a $5 fine for having an oz on you (if caught). All the fed did (Jimmy Carter) was this you want to not enforce federal law, ok, we will stop sending you federal $$ in education, energy, law enforcement, military spending, roads, airports, fishing, farming etc. California would lose more $$ than you expect and claim they would save. So, if the fed used the same tactic, yes the Calif legislature and courts would strike prop 19 down. As for me, I’ve been allergic to pot for 27 years, but support it being decriminalized.
If only the Federal government would return Constitutional power to the states.
I’m not convinced the feds don’t have the power under the constitution. Quite simple Federal law trumps state law.
That said, I firmly believe California is right and decriminalizing marijuana possession makes perfect sense. In fact all the evidence is that criminalization of drugs has simply made the problem worse … and costs taxpayers a fortune in doing so.
I don’t use drugs and don’t agree with their use, but making use a criminal offence is plain stupid (particularly when the evidence is staring people in the face that criminalization is counterproductive)
If I were the governor of California and Proposition 19 passes I’d consider how to position CA so the state could tell the feds California will not enforce federal law in that area. At the same time I’d spend money to try to convince other states to follow CA’s example. In this area the feds may have the power, but they are wrong and the sooner they realize it the better off for everyone.
See the link for a voice of reason re marijuana laws … the Police.
First of all, thank you for knowing what the real cause of the civil war was. The federal govt. is so far out of touch it’s scary. You would think it would be illegal for them to withhold “federal” money as if it belonged to them. Of course they will ignore the Constitution. It does not go along with what they want to do and would cost them power. States rights are a shambles and now the fed is going after individual’s rights. It’s going to take the people to quit believing that they will get something from the feds and stop voting in the same thing over and over. At least some states are fighting back.
