Is it possible to perform athletically while high off marijuana?
My question would be does it hinder your performance? If so, does it go so far as to even IMPROVE performance? I’m from a very high profile high school in Texas, and we had a very stellar football team one year. There weren’t many extreme athletes, but I did hear rumors from many sources that the majority of the team smoked marijuana before every game. I find this very intriguing and would like to know more. If you have personal experience please share but answers from all sources are great.
While the legal gap decreases with every state victory, there remains a prevalent misconception that marijuana is a... Read More »

The multiple-state championship winning cross country team from my high school were mostly stoners – but I don’t know whether they smoked before a meet or not.
I’ve got to believe that it hinders their performance physically, but it may make them less afraid of or affected by pain – which may be a different kind of advantage. Pot is a depressant – which will slow reaction times and decrease motivation.
People who smoke alot of pot get stupid over time – so I wouldn’t recommend it. All in all, probably less harmful than frequent steroid use, but not a good idea.
Yes, smoking pot would be likely to hinder an athlete’s performance. The degree to which it hurt an athlete would probably depend on the individual. For example, a guy who smokes pot every day would be affected less by smoking than a guy who has only smoked once or twice. But the guy who smokes every day would have some problems with lung capacity, I’m sure.
It is harder for one to concentrate if one has been smoking pot, and ones reflexes are dulled. I am sure this could have adverse effects on the field.
If your football team performed well, it is probably DESPITE smoking pot rather than BECAUSE of it. They are probably very good players to begin with, and they were able to overcome the negative effects of smoking. But if they continued to do it, I’m sure it would catch up with them. For one thing, I believe NCAA rules require teams to drug test their players. If they tested positive for pot, they could be suspended.
Ask Ricky Williams.
the last thing i want to do when im baked as hell is play sports,in but i have lots of friends that are just as active when they smoke weed,it really depends on the person.
The 3 time water polo champions at my school are stoners including me and a couple of all-americans but it would be the most idiotic to even think of smoking before a game. We always smoke but not before games. Im sure we would lose to the worse team if we played high. Imagine the whole line not reacting to the hike becose of the slow reaction of pot , it would be a very long day for the high team
Well, you are able tyo do a lot when you smoke a sativa strain. I believe Chubbs from MMJ Bootcamp once said that when on the strain “Green Crack,” he ended up doing things like vacuuming and cleaning when high.
Sativas allow you to be more active and social, but as far as football goes, you have to be aggressive, not passive, when in the game.
I would not recommend getting high before playing, but in order to relax your body after.
From my own experience, I was able to do a couple sets of pull ups when high, but depending on the strain, you may feel different.
Some athletes in football have been noted for smoking pot, for example, in 2003 the running back for the miami dolphins (forgot his name, but he had long dreads) got a lot of flack for smoking pot.
Hope this answers your question. Good luck with football.
yes but you wont want to
