Is it possible to become a police officer or work in law enforcement with a marijuana possesion charge?
I was a passenger in a car that got searched at a sobriety check point and i was caught w/5 grams of marijuana. That is about a year in my past now.I’m only 19.But it happened 2 months after my 18th b-day, i have a clear record other than that. Will i ever be able to work in the law enforcement career track with this charge?
Quite possibly. You’ll have to check on the department’s drug policy you’re wanting to work for.
yes
This is a very good question. Police Departments around the US vary in employment protocol and legal differentalities that tend to make this answer confusing.
The rule of thumb is that if you have a felony conviction then it would not be likely that you could land a job with the Police Department. I think your marijuana charge might have been a misdemeanor in which case as long as you tell them in you initial application you should be okay.
yea you should be fine but i hope you stopped using you will get drug tested.
its possible, you weren’t caught makin’ that double, sellin’, in use of it….and 5 grams….so its considered a misdemeanor…yeah like dude said above me…check it out with your district!
probably not
Yeah! my friend you will have a problem getting a job as a police officer that marijuana charges is only a year removed from when it happened and not unless your record was sealed or expunged it will be there, and the fact that you were 18 when that took place you were considered and adult.
I;m not saying u will never be able to work in law enforcement again heck u may still be able to become a police officer I mean if you have followed the news there is a police officer shortage in this country and if you have kept ur nose clean and that is the only charge you have and it was not a felony possession because each state laws on drug possession varies ok so u never know and you will never know if you do not check into or apply for the academy and take the test and trust me do not hide that fact because they will find it out and you will be out the door before you can get a foot in for lying about it ok so just be straight up with them in applying and hey!u never no good luck!
Yes, as long it was a misdemeanor and not a felony. also you need to tell the truth about the charge. some depts will over look it, some won’t. you can also hire an attorney to get your record expunged/sealed. good luck
You probably could but, trying to find a department that would accept that might be a harder job.
Yes most departments want it to be no criminal activity for 3 years.Call the department and ask to speak to a recruiter
yes it is still possible. But you would have to be up front about it. Don’t be surprised if they tell you “no thanks” a lot of law enforcement agencies are very selective. You should apply at a department that is desperate for help. They will be more willing to overlook something like that.
