Is it possible to become a pharmacist/pharmacy technician if you use medical cannabis?
If a person is licensed to use medical marijuana for a legitimate medical purpose, is it possible to become a pharmacist or pharmacy technician?
I was wondering, since Pharmacy licenses are tied closely to and controlled by the DEA (from what I understand), would medical marijuana patients (who are in conflict with federal law), be able to acquire a license to practice?
Please keep your answers relevant to the question.
I don’t want to know your opinion on the use of marijuana. This is merely out of curiosity.
Check with a lawyer, it is a legal question.
At the point of hiring, they will do a drug urine test. Cannabis will be present. Marijuana is a C-1 drug, and there is no such thing as a legal prescription for it, in the eyes of the government. If you knowingly let a drug user work at your pharmacy, and the DEA learns about it, you can loose your controlled drugs license. If found guilty of possession of marijuana, you cannot be a pharmacist.
Now, if you had a legal prescription for Marinol, you would be fine.
