Is California passing a law to legalize marijuana?
I heard that California is passing a law to legalize marijuana. Not for medical purposes. I know that has passed. This is a law that would legalize it for people to smoke marijuana legally in the state.I think this would be a huge mistake. I think it is good for people that are in chronic pain and can not relieve the pain. I think that letting anyone smoke it will increase crime and traffic accidents. What do you think?
Such a bill is being considered but it won’t be passed–at least not this year.
They need tax money bad,if it pass,es will the feds stop it.
I believe that they have just passed some laws that would regulate it, should it become legalized. It’s more of a preparatory step; it does not (yet) legalize marijuana.
I’m all for marijuana being legalized. People get it now with no problem, so why shouldn’t we all benefit from the revenue it would generate?
Alcohol affects your motor skills 10x worse than weed and is also 10x worse than weed on your body. It should be legal in all 50 states if alcohol is. Nothing good can come from alcohol. Weed helps many people its proven to basicaly help any problume you have mentaly and physicaly
California has not passed, nor is currently voting on a law to legalize marijuana yet. There has been a bill introduced by CA district 13 representative Tom Ammiano to the state legislature which would aim to do this, but it has only been introduced and not voted on, nor has a vote been scheduled.
There are multiple ballot measures in the works, one of which will definitely appear on the November 2010 ballot which aim to legalize marijuana in the state.
As for if it is a good idea or not, I personally believe it is. Marijuana by all measures is safer than alcohol, and less addictive. Those intoxicated by it are much less violent and aggressive than those intoxicated by alcohol. Road side sobriety test apply to marijuana as much as alcohol, so I don’t believe that enforcement of sober driving will be an issue. As for crime rates, places where it is legal have seen neither an increase in crime nor an increase in underage use.
As previously mentioned, the state could stand to gain up to 1 billion dollars from taxing and regulating marijuana sales. Hemp fibers make better and more sustainable paper products and clothing. As an intoxicant, it is fairly benign (0 recorded deaths resulting directly from marijuana use in all human history). There is no link to increased cancer rates, in fact it is shown to be an anti-carcinogen, reducing the size of many types of tumors. Having a legal distribution and regulation system would cut down on underage use as dealers don’t care how old their clients are.
Really, the question should be, why isn’t it legal?
