If Prop 19 passed, what would have happend?
I know Prop 19 is for the legalization of Marijuana, but I hear people say that even if it did pass, it would still be a federal crime, or something like that. If it would have passed, would people in California be able to grow it and smoke it? Would people be able to purchase it like people purchase cigarettes now (like in 20 packs at gas stations)?
I’m very confused on this. Could someone please clarify?
It would still be a federal crime because even though Proposition 19 was on the ballot, it violates federal law. I’m assuming that had it passed the Attorney General would have stepped in and the law would not have passed because the federal constitution always trumps the state.
Yes people in California would be able to hold up to an ounce of weed legally and grow it within a limited amount of acres in their house. There may also be stations in local places such as starbucks where you can inhale the marijuana without actually smoking it.
It would be legalized in that state. Take it to a state where it’s not legalized and…
If passed, Cali folk would have been allowed 1 oz. possession for personal use plus 25 sq. ft. growing space on private property.
Gas stations wouldn’t sell it.
It was and is a federal crime regardless of the outcome of Prop 19. Had it passed, the feds would likely have cracked down and including on medical weed use.
I don’t recognize a right to be stoned. Too bad, so sad.
If it is so harmless, let’s give it to babies and pregnant women. It’s a just a natural plant, after all, right?
People smoking right now are CRIMINALS.
Yes- but its all good—i will continue to smoke it either way and so will everyone else. so its no problem for me.and the govenator already signed a deal to make it an infraction for up to an ounce.
it would have to be legalized across the country for companies to start selling it in their stores. and if that happens big companies would make millions off of the easy to grow and maintain crop. even the prices of marijuana would drop drastically which would deliver a major blow to the Mexican drug cartels and drug dealers across America
@isurvived. do you think it’s a right to get drunk and destroy your liver? or maybe smoke cigarettes and get cancer? Marijuana has not killed a single person so you can keep being narrow minded and believe what the government tells you.
It would have meant that the State of California could no longer prosecute someone for possessing a limited amount or for growing a set amounts for personal use. It also would have provided for certain distribution/sale at limited locations. However, it would have remained a violation of federal law, and individuals could be arrested and prosecuted by federal agents in federal court.
The point is moot because it did not pass. It would not have been a federal law since the referendum was on the state ballot.
