How do you feel about the federal government superseding California state law if Prop 19 is passed?
Citicop, yes the DEA has said that if Prop 19 is passed they will continue prosecuting people who possess marijuana as a violation of federal law even if it is legal in the state. There is plenty of info available on this if you do a Google search, no one’s hiding it.
This would be a situation where the state and federal laws directly oppose each other. Not where there is a federal law for an issue and not a state law.
there are not enough federal police to enforce it, so basically the feds are gonna try to prosecute people and cali will simply turn a blind eye to it. kinda like the feds immigration policy’s ya dig?
Well, it should lead to a civil war. This goes beyond weed, I don’t want the gov’t that involved in my life
I think it’s wrong. This is not coming from a typical SoCal hippie either. I am a conservative how has recently joined the Marines and I believe Prop 19 should be passed for a variety of reasons that would take to long to write down here. My main problem with the feds intervening is that their power has grown way too large and they are demonstrating that they don’t care about states’ rights. Imagine the uprising if the feds had intervened when California legalized gay marriage. Bush would be called a Nazi even more than the rabid libs do now.
The Federal Government is not “superseding” the state law.
Right now, Marijuana is illegal at both the state and federal levels.
The Federal Government is under no obligation to change their law just because California does.
Nothing new there. Copyright violation of a federal crime but not a state crime. Federal income tax evation is a federal crime, but not a state crime. There are many others, including quite a few dealing with endangered species and pollution. Feds enforce federal law and states enforce state law.
