How do you attack a cowrie shell?
How do I attach a cowrie shell to hemp jewelry? I’ve seen people make them hanging down but I’ve also seen them going across. I was just wondering how do I know the shell going across.

You can either sandwich the shell between different strands of the weave or braid if that is the technique you are using. If you do that, I’d suggest using some rhinestone or other jewelry glue on the inside of the shell to keep it from falling out. Otherwise, many craft stores sell cowrie shells with a large hole drilled in the back that can be used for lacing (so the strands don’t fall out of the crack). They are generally inexpensive ($2-3 a pack).
At first, I only read the headline of your question, and I was going to suggest you sneak up behind it with a big stick.
But, never mind.
You can get cowrie shells that are either sanded down so the open area is exposed, or you can get them with holes pre-drilled in them. Micheal’s craft store has them sometimes.
I did find black imitation ones in decent looking plastic at a wig and hair weaving shop, in their bead section along the wall. Excellent looking too, but they only had the black, not the natural color.
