It might free the police up to investigate and prosecute real crimes!
Many many jobs will be lost. It is a profitable business putting people in private prisons and having them perform slave labor. Police officers spend most of their days setting up stings to catch drug dealers. Prison guards, lawyers, judges, etc. all have jobs because of the massive amount of drug convicted people coming in and out of the system. The people that get paid don’t want to put an end to the war on drugs.
