How are earth did Prop 19 legal pot fail? Where the stoners too high to remember to vote?
given all the other radical left results in CA 19 not passing it a huge upset. How can this be explained?
Taylor what are you talking about? Conservatives were split on prop 19 as you know they don’t want government to be making choices about our personal life.
I guess I just answered my own question. It was the lack of conservatives in CA that carried over a loss on 19. So the reason 19 failed is the same as the reason 25 passed and 23 failed, not enough conservatives in CA.
I agree with you Jer. For example it was advertised as a money maker for the state through taxes. However anyone with a brain new that if it passed everyone would just grow their own and not sell it, therefore no tax revenue. You would be nuts to sell it since it will still be a federal crime to sell Pot.
Sorry JM. I was up late checking out the results.
Why don’t they let you go back and fix typos on your questions?
prop 19 was a fail, because the profits should stay in the hands of dealers and cartels… god bless America. Think about it, marijuana would have a very high tax if it was legally sold as if it was alcohol. There is always next year.
There are more conservatives than you think. And the old people vote no on that stuff, while young people would vote yes. more old people vote than young people and are less outspoken about things than young people. its the same thing that happened with prop 8 two years ago.
logical voters apparently have not lost any brain cells so it got defeated
next proposition = vote to lower the price of doritos
Just because Democrats control the state does not mean that they’re all very left wing. Many parts of the state are full of conservative Democrats who don’t want gays marrying and don’t want people smoking pot. They’re very loyal Democrats, but they’re ideologically different in certain ways.
I think the problem is that it was too vague. People may want to make it legal, but not if it means that someone can just walk down the street smoking. People want to know about how it will be advertised, what restrictions will be put on where it can and can’t be smoked, what kind of quality control will the government initiate, etc.
“The Jer” above me is correct. It has nothing to do with the conservatives. Every conservative I know voted to make it legal. I am also conservative.
56% democrats voted yes
30% republicans voted yes
47% independendent voted yes
even a big percentage of DEMOCRATS voted no (46%)
probally because the younger people who would have voted yes couldn’t figure out how to vote online or register on the day of voting XO
but 2012 will have this prop again. everybody gets a 2cnd chance to legalize in california cuz thats how we do it
I had to read your question a couple times to figure it out.
Have you been smoking pot?
