Can smoking marijuana make it harder to feel fetal movement?
My cousin is a medical marijuana patient. She is 19 weeks pregnant and still has yet to feel the baby. Its alive in there healthy and kicking, but could smoking marijuana be causing her to not notice the fetal kicks/movement.
While the legal gap decreases with every state victory, there remains a prevalent misconception that marijuana is a... Read More »

SHe wouldn’t be feeling the baby kick by now anyway, not with a first pregnancy
Okay first off her doctors would have told her to not smoke while pregnant. This causes MANY defects so yes, her baby could very well have something wrong with it.
You usually don’t feel kicking until after 20 weeks, though.
she might not feel movement before 22 weeks….
even medicinal marijuana is going to have adverse effects. Her doctor is okay with her still smoking it? Not judging, just asking.
Hmmmmm…..What kind of doctor would prescribe marijuana to a pregnant women? I don’t know if it would specifically affect fetal movement…but smoking marijuana while you are pregnant is not a good thing.
well smoking that stuff weather its with permission or not its not good for the baby im so surprised the doctor didnt tell her to stop…
hope that baby comes out well 😀
hmmm, hu? what?!!! Just lay off the marijuana while pregnant, sheesh. If her dr. ok’d it, I would have found a new one ASAP…..what in the h*ll is the matter with this world anymore….my my my
She may not feel the baby yet anyway. Has the doctor not told her to refrain from the pot while she is pregnant? Regardless that it is medical or not.
Her doctor has really giving her the ok to smoke while pregnant? (that worries me a little)
1st time pregnant you won’t feel the baby move until after 20wks anyway.
It’s too early yet for her to feel the baby moving…. but the marijuana may make her less aware of the babys movements, and also, it will probably slow down the BABY’S movements, so he/she may not be moving as much. I can’t believe she is still smoking it during her pregnancy!!!! She should read some statistics on what that does to a developing fetus!! Read some of the horror stories of what happens throughout the life of these children! It causes so many problems for them. It’s just wrong.
yes it is numbing to the body and pain that is why it is prescribed
No, something like that would not interfere with feeling fetal movement. She isn’t feeling it yet just because many women do not feel it at this point in pregnancy. If she hasn’t felt noticable movement by week 22 she should inform her doctor. By 24-26 weeks she should be feeling regular, daily movement.
And for the record, although where I live medicinal marijuana is not legal (yet) I know of several OBs who support medicinal marijuana and they believe that yes, while there are risks, they are relatively slight and often benefits outweigh risks. Marijuana is not up there with crack, heroin, and meth. Naturally it is best to avoid it if possible, but if it is the only thing that relieves a valid medical condition, then using it sparingly is not likely to harm the fetus.
Wow she’s rather smoke weed then keep her baby safe she’s well off to being a good mother….
ask her stop smoking marijuana which w’d affect her baby in the long run.
I thought that if you were a medical marijuana patient . that they used it in the form of a pill.Did her doctor tell her that it was OK to smoke while pregnant? She has to consider that every thing she puts into her body shes putting it in her baby as well.Unless her baby needs it for medical reasons as well. But I highly doubt it.
Yes, it could be why she hasn’t felt anything. They say that you may not feel movement with your first until you’re 22weeks, but I know of about 8 women who are pregnant with thier first as well and all of us have felt movement around 16-18weeks.
Medical pot or not… she should not be smoking it…
“marijuana” and “pregnant” are 2 words that do not belong in the same sentence. what kind of doctor would prescribe that to a pregnant patient? or is that a lie to make your question sound better?
on the other hand, you’ve gotten a few answers from people telling you you don’t feel movement before 20 weeks and that’s bullshite. i’m pregnant with my first and been feeling him since i was 17 weeks. ask any OB and read any pregnancy book and they’ll tell you exactly that.
