In Catholicism, the Pope can, and has been able to for a very long time, add specifics acts into the “sinful” category. I’m not sure the specific working of who has to approve what, but various Popes throughout history have decided what grey areas (contraception, abortion, etc) are moral and what aren’t. Just going by technicality of the Catholic church here man. It’s all bullshit, but that’s how Christianity through history has viewed cannabis.

Pope Innocent VIII “made” the use of Cannabis (and any other herb/psychedelic herb used in a ritualistic manner) a sin in the early Christian church, and it’s still on the books. So yes, in Catholicism (which holds most of Christianity’s history) it is still a sin to use cannabis, just like it’s technically a sin to use birth control.
