Starting a Business while in College…?
Hey everyone I am just about to finish up my 2nd year of college at UCSB. Business Economics is one of my majors and my main field of study. I live in a college town where its seems as though most any business does well in the town. There is currently an unoccupied spot that used to be a hookah bar. Basically I am curious if there was anyway I could go about opening a business there. As in where could I find potential investors? bank business loans? I feel as though if I could come up with a niche that no one else has I could make it successful. I have only taken the lower division economics and accounting courses but will start the more advanced classes in the summertime.
BTW, an idea I have is some type of sports bar/mini club. If I could get some input from some small business owners or people with thoughts, I’d appreciate it. Thanks
O and to top it off, I just found out the unoccupied building was the site of the first ever Kinko’s!!!!! There has to be some good luck left in it!!!!!

There should be a SBA center near you in your town. They are usually in Federal buildings or Universities.
From trying to start my own business a few times, let me give you a couple thoughts.
Most businesses are crushed by Debt within 12 months of starting it. And two when investors see you don’t have much starting capital or not committing 100% of your effort to the business they will walk away and never give you a second look.
If you can get 10% of starting capitol needed and are out of college, you are sure to get some investors.
I am currently working a second job so I can pay 50% start up costs and then look for an investor. Won’t be easy now, but I won’t be out of business soon after opening either.
