Legalize Cannabis Free the Weed Glasgow Demo
Legalize marijuana demonstration which assembled in University Avenue and proceeded through Glasgow’s West End down Byres Rd, turned left and continued along Dumbarton Road and Argyle St, passed Kelvin Hall and the Glasgow Museum & Art Galleries to much cheering from young people on the embankment until they reached Kelvingrove Park where the sound of reggae beats could be heard (whenever the PA system worked intermittently!) The annual Glasgow legalise cannabis demo took place this year on July 24th. See ssy.org.uk for a good article on the history of drugs and prohibition. Despite cannabis being a less harmful drug than alcohol and prescription painkillers and drugs used to treat extreme anxiety and hyperactivity, it is still illegal in most places. Medical and police experts recognise that marijuana is not a dangerous drug, and in fact the majority of police feel it to be a waste of their time to have to deal with cases of marijuana possession when their resources would be better spent on tackling real crimes. Cannabis was classified as a list C drug but instead of legalising it, the government upgraded it to class B drug, probably to make it extremely difficult to legalise by placing it two steps away from legalisation but only one step away from being associated with hard drugs. The Arizona shooter, Jared Loughner was a left-wing pothead. In order for a true mental illness to be diagnosed one must be clean for two years for brain chemistry to normalize enough for a proper diagnosis. @mathewp80 – Marijuana can make you paranoid… I love the stuff but one of the side effects can be paranoia. Some of us fortunate smokers do not get it but, this is a real effect caused by the psychoactive ingredients of THC. It’s not like it can kill you and the paranoia will wear off just like the beautiful high. You go on about the government saying it… my friend that is being paranoid. Did I just make you look stupid on the internet? Yes… yes i did haha. LEGALIZE THE HERB!!!!
We defo need more advertising of this event, the majority of the protestors look like kids, we need more adults, medicinal users, mass advertise the next one through social networking, forums, flyers, if any impact is going to be made you need alot more numbers than that!

Nice one, gave me good flashbacks: We had a great smoke-in in 1972 right where you were sitting in the park, one of our commune’s pussycats got stuck up a tree – the we split to London, for a summer of love. In 1991 my brother Alistair and I used to spliff all over the West End, the only voices in Glasgow at the time willing to even mention Legalisation (before Police approved ‘clean soap bar’ took over). I feel I helped cause your rally in a way. Keep flying! It might never be legal but do it.

There is usually an annual legalise cannabis march in Glasgow in the summer organised by the SSY. A link to a cannabis article on their website is near the beginning of the video description. If you bookmark their site and check back every now and again from early summer you should be able to find out when the next demo is.
