Going to a new Doc. Should I tell him I smoke marijuana for chronic headach relief?
I have had bad headaches all my life and have been treated on and off by various neurologists, etc. I am going to a new doctor tomorrow and am not sure if I should tell him that I smoke pot several times a week to help get rid of the head pain.
I only recently started doing that (about 2 years ago) and I never would have believed it could help the pain so much. I was totally “anti drug” all my life and have never done any drug stronger than the marijuana.
For me it’s not a “gateway drug” or anything like that. It helps the pain A LOT and the side effects are that it relaxes me and it makes me hungry. I like the relaxing part but not the hungry part!
I just want to know if I should tell my doctor so he knows or if not. He can’t do anything to me or turn me in, can he?
I know it’s illegal. I don’t sell it, don’t endanger anyone doing it, don’t advocate it for recreaction purposes only
I wouldn’t be asking his permission or approval as I intend to keep doing it since it works so well. Just wondering if there is any good reason to disclose my self-treatment.
I’m liking the varied answers. Thanks all!
Yes, you should. He will keep it confidential and you might be surprised that he agrees…….
I myself believe in being honest with my doctors. The few times I did admit that I smoked it was used against me. I hope you get better results!
You could tell him if you want, but its not really nessesary. What are you expecting to gain from telling him? Unless you live in Cali or Canada, then there is really no point in telling him.
Its ok to advocate marijuana by the way. I think it is a great drug for physical medicinal remedies as well as mental.
Perhaps ask his views on the issue and tell him you were thinking of doing this to relieve the pain you’re suffering from. I think some people are allowed to smoke it legally but they are terminally ill.
If it is a new doctor he should do a complete physical which would include a complete blood work-up; with that alone not counting the urinalyses he will see the THC levels in your system without you telling (all doctors know more than they reveal) him anything about it.
Tell him. Marijuiana can be dangerous- just tell him please.
