Proposition 19 Debate – To Legalize, Regulate and Tax Marijuana or Not?
KMVT hosts a non-partisan debate on Prop 19 for the 2010 California Election. Police chiefs Joseph McNamara (yes on prop 19) and Peter Dunbar (no on prop 19) argue points on marijuana use and the impacts of legalizing marijuana. This Proposition will appear on the November 2, 2010 Ballot. Prop 19: Legalization, Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana The Question: Should California legalize the possession and cultivation of marijuana for personal use of adults 21 years and older, and allow state and local governments to regulate and tax related commercial activities?
i think that marijuana should be legalized as a compensation for the war in iraq…
Ha, ha!
You hippy dope smoking commies jackasses lost!
Ha, ha! Lock up all the dopers and make them break hemp bricks with sledgehammers all day long.

@12OC4EVER798 sooo tru
ppl drive high regardless
Making it a misameanr? wtf thats screaming out weed must not be a safety issue and the only reason theyl keep it illegal is to get money from crime
Every debate the compare stronger drugs to marijuana by saying it has a gateway effect? which is not true, you can’t prove anyone goes onto other drugs soley from marijuana, i drunk alcahole and smoked before i smoked marijuana so does that make tabacco and alcohole gateway drugs? .. Prohibition is a fail,
@Wolf5Vlud
Maybe you need to consider that everyone doesnt fit a standard case scenario. There’s kids who would hardly have an interest in it, except for the fact that peer pressure from those who you would consider old enough, maybe even those who get it legally. Its not a matter of how WE keep it out of kids hands. Its a matter of what kids do with each other once it gets thru the system.
So what about the kid that acquires a beer from a bad parent? OTHER kids see him drink and he may offer.
@Wolf5Vlud And f we think about it, It’s probably easier for a minor to get weed from an illegitimate source, let’s say a common dealer in the streets, looking to make some easy money than at a store, which can ask for the buyers ID in case the clerk is not sure of the buyer’s age. If my sister is to buy weed one day, I hope she doesn’t but if she does, I would rather prefer if she did it in a controlled environment, not in a dirty alley, and if she got caught she wouldn’t get locked up.
@avrilrockedyou I consider that everyday. There is a lot of people who isn’t smart enough for many things. But I don’t think the people who came up with the proposition fit that description. My sister is 15 and her friends are around 16 and I know her friends are starting to buy things like strobes or other crap teenagers start to drink at that age, and some of them even smoke cigarettes. My point is these things should be unavailable to kids as the law states. Who’s to blame for that?
@818playain714 your a typical angry dumberican troll, and you make me laugh so much you waste of life.
@Wolf5Vlud Very true, and very well said.
@Wolf5Vlud
Nice theory, but perhaps you should consider human beings in general aren’t smart enough to account for every eventuality that may occur if it was legalized.
It seems like each side has good points to argue but there’s one argument that trumps every other one: What will the effects be on our school systems and children? Nothing you can say would ever lead me to believe there wouldn’t be an increase of kids in class too stoned to learn something.
The only reason that proposition 19 did not pass, it is because of closed-minded and misinformed people, NOT like chief Dunbar, but the majority of people who voted against prop 19, which probably NEVER consumed marijuana in their lives, that we as a society cease to evolve. We still listen to these guys who say weed is bad, who rather advertise alcohol and tobacco (and they do), which kill hundreds of thousands of ppl everywhere for profit. Good job. The killing shall continue.
Furthermore, I would vote yes. But not because of this debate, I already formed my opinion about this subject long ago, and this is why the topic is so controversial. People made up their minds about weed long ago. And why? Because long ago mass media said to us marijuana is a drug. And drugs are bad, and they kill you. I don’t agree with this association. Weed is a drug, but so is aspirin. Don’t compare it with crack cocaine or heroin. It is idiotic. They lie and lie about weed for $.
hm.. addictive marijuana HAHA. And who would NOT purchase food or drinks? I’m sorry to comment here, I’m not even American but I am very interested in this subject. I feel for Peter Dunbar, he was not the right person to speak here. The man is a chief of police, he is used to deal with worst case scenarios and he probably has enough reasons to oppose to Prop 19. But people, smoking your joint and be thrown into jail with a rapist or murderer for that is the real injustice here.
@323232rob I know that, but its still a a good point. lol
@tezinnit well thats because most people in holland cycle and dont own cars you should do your research more thoroughly lol
ITHINK PEOPLE THAT ARE AGAINST IT SHOULD SMOKE 1 AND THEN SAY WHATS RIGHT OR WRONG BECAUSE I THINK IF I WAS TO SMOKE 4 JOINTS.. I COULD STILL BE CAPABLE OF FUNCTIONING NORMAL AS IF A PERSON WHO DRANK 4 BEERS…
JOSEPH McNAMARA IS MY IDOL!!!
DONT CRITICIZE IT, LEGALIZE IT!! xD
IHATE THE GUY AGAINST IT.. HES AN IDIOT JUST BECAUSE OF THAT IM GOING TO BE A BUS DRIVER N SMOKE A JOINT IN MY LUNCH BREAK!!! xd
